Described by the Los Angeles Times as an artist of “great skill and accomplishment,” Robert Blocker, the William Edward Gilbert Professor of Piano at Yale University, has forged an international career as a pianist, educator, transformative academic leader, and advocate for the arts and education.

He performs internationally in recital, chamber music, and orchestral settings. His longstanding connections with China include serving as senior global artistic advisor for the Shenzhen International Piano and Dance Festivals, consultant to the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and senior global advisor to the Youth Orchestra of China.

In 2000, Steinway & Sons featured Blocker in a film alongside Billy Joel and Van Cliburn celebrating the tercentennial year of the piano. He also holds the title of honorary professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

His most recent recording, Eight Contemporary Character Pieces for Piano, was released by Nimbus in 2024. His recordings can also be heard on the Albany, Credia, and Naxos labels.
